Teacher of the Deaf - Wharenui School

Ko Taku Reo is a Specialist School for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students. This new organisation came out of a journey to merge Kelston and van Asch Deaf Education Centres. You will be joining a nationwide team and you will share their passion and enthusiasm for delivering high quality education and services to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students and their whanau we support.
We are looking for a qualified and fully registered Teacher to join our team on a full-time, fixed term basis for the 2022 school year based in Christchurch at our Wharenui School provision. We need a teacher with the right skills and attitude who can work with a range of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students across all communication modes and varying learning contexts.
Our Provisions are staffed by Teaching Teams which include Teachers, Educational Interpreters, Teacher Aides of the Deaf with access to other specialists when required. Our class sizes are small, ranging from 2 – 7 students per class group. We need a teacher with the right skills and attitude who can work with a range of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in varying learning contexts.
Applications will be considered from teachers with recent successful teaching experience including the skills required to differentiate and scaffold learning. Knowledge and understanding of the core business of lifting student achievement and wellbeing is essential. We will support you to develop an awareness of Deaf Culture and community. Proficiency in New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) or a willingness to learn NZSL is essential.
