Digital Librarian

Ko Taku Reo Deaf Education New Zealand is New Zealand’s provider of education services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) children. Education through collaboration is our passion.  We have a large team of over 300 specialist staff across New Zealand with specialist school provisions in Auckland and Christchurch. This new nationwide organisation came about from the merger of Kelston and Van Asch Deaf Education Centres in 2020.

This permanent part-time role (hours of work to be negotiated but our preferred days are Tuesday-Friday), based at our Sumner campus and working collaboratively within our small Library team, you’ll be jointly responsible for ensuring the development, growth and maintenance of our library collections and digital library services. Alongside growing our digital offering, the role involves maintaining the library management system, processing hardcopy resources for use, providing literacy and inquiry support for teachers and staff, and contributing to library promotion. The role also supports teachers to lift their digital capability to enhance classroom literacy achievement.

Our ideal candidate will have experience developing library eLearning resources and be skilled at identifying gaps in collections and researching new items to add to our library to ensure we are meeting student needs. The ability to work collaboratively within the Library team to plan, develop, deliver and evaluate library services is essential. You will have a natural ability to foster meaningful relationships with people across all levels of the organisation in a variety of ways. An affinity or understanding of deaf culture and NZSL would be great however we can bring you into this world and help you engage. 


  • A tertiary or similar qualification in Librarianship/Information Management
  • Excellent working knowledge of a library management system
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365 productivity apps
  • Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues to resolve issues and meet agreed outcomes
