Information Governance Lead
We are seeking an experienced Information Governance Lead to establish and lead Ko Taku Reo's information governance function. Reporting to the Head of Digital and IT, this permanent, full-time role can be based in Christchurch (preferred) or Auckland, with flexibility for the right candidate.
This is an exciting opportunity to build an information governance capability from the ground up. While Ko Taku Reo has information, systems and records across the organisation, we do not currently have a mature Information Governance Framework or Enterprise Document and Records Management System (EDRMS) in place. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape the future state by developing the strategy, frameworks, processes and systems that will underpin information management across the organisation.
Working closely with Digital & IT, business leaders and staff across Aotearoa, you will embed best practice information management into everyday operations, ensuring compliance with New Zealand legislation while enabling staff to work efficiently and confidently with organisational information. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on delivery. You will be equally comfortable developing governance frameworks and policies as you are mapping business processes, configuring information structures, leading projects and supporting staff through change.
YOU WILL HAVE / KA MAHI KOE
A tertiary qualification (Level 7 or above) in Information Management, Records Management, Library Sciences, Information Systems or a related discipline. Most importantly, you will bring proven experience establishing or significantly transforming an Information Governance function, rather than simply maintaining an existing one.
You will also demonstrate:
- Proven experience leading the implementation of an Enterprise Document and Records Management System (EDRMS), including requirements gathering, vendor selection, implementation and organisational adoption.
- Demonstrated experience developing Information Governance strategies, frameworks, policies and operating models.
- Practical experience designing information architecture, metadata standards, classification structures, retention and disposal schedules, and end-to-end information workflows.
- Experience analysing and redesigning business processes to improve information management and governance outcomes.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 information management capabilities, including SharePoint, Teams, Purview and related governance technologies.
- Proven experience managing hybrid records environments (paper and digital).
- Sound understanding of New Zealand legislative and regulatory requirements, including the Public Records Act 2005, Privacy Act 2020 and Archives New Zealand standards.
- Experience leading organisational change, influencing stakeholders and delivering training across diverse staff groups.
- Excellent project management, planning and analytical skills, with the ability to translate strategy into practical implementation.
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills, with the confidence to influence at all organisational levels.
- Knowledge of New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL), or a willingness to learn.
WHY THIS ROLE IS DIFFERENT
This is not a traditional records management role. You will have the rare opportunity to establish an information governance capability that will support Ko Taku Reo for many years to come. You'll help shape how information is created, managed, protected and shared across a national organisation, while leading the implementation of modern digital information management practices and technologies.
HOW TO APPLY / ME PEHEA TE TONO
If you enjoy creating structure where none exists, leading meaningful organisational change, and leaving a lasting legacy, we'd love to hear from you. Apply by submitting your CV and a cover letter outlining your experience and interest in the role. Applications will be reviewed as they are received. Only applicants that are legally entitled to work in Aotearoa will be considered for this position.
