Ko Taku Reo Deaf Education New Zealand provides specialist education services for Deaf and hard of hearing learners across Aotearoa. THE ROLE / TE MAHI
We are seeking an experienced Information Governance Lead to provide specialist expertise in the governance, protection, and lifecycle management of Ko Taku Reo’s information assets.
Reporting to the Head of IT, this permanent, full-time role based in Sumner, ensures that student, staff and organisational records - both digital and physical - are created, stored, accessed, retained and disposed of in accordance with New Zealand legislation and best practice.
You will play a pivotal role in embedding a culture of accountability and confidence in information handling across the school. This includes leading compliance with the Public Records Act and Privacy Act, supporting audits and Ministry reporting, managing information systems and records processes, and safeguarding records of historical, cultural and educational significance to the Deaf community.
Working closely with Digital & IT, service units, and staff nationwide, you will provide practical guidance, training, and assurance in hybrid record environments, while proactively managing information risks and supporting organisational resilience.
YOU WILL HAVE / KA MAHI KOE
- A tertiary qualification (Level 7) in Information Management, Records Management, Library Sciences, or a related discipline
- Proven experience managing hybrid records environments (paper and digital)
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 tools and EDRMS systems, ideally within an education or government setting
- Sound understanding of New Zealand legislative and regulatory requirements, including the Public Records Act 2005, Privacy Act 2020, and Archives New Zealand standards
- Experience leading change, training and awareness programmes across diverse staff groups
- Excellent judgement, planning, and analytical skills, with a pragmatic, solution-focused approach
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across the organisation
- A high level of integrity, accountability, and professionalism
- Knowledge of New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) or a willingness to learn
