NZSL Services Manager


We are seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to join our team as NZSL Services Manager - a key role in shaping the future of NZSL education and strengthening access and inclusion for Deaf and Hard of Hearing ākonga across Aotearoa.

THE ROLE / TE MAHI

The NZSL Services Manager provides both strategic and operational leadership of NZSL services nationwide. This includes leading a diverse, bilingual and bicultural team to deliver high-quality NZSL environments and resources that support D/HH learners, their whānau and partner schools. This role reports to the Head of Regional Outreach Services and can be based in either Tāmaki Makaurau or Ōtautahi.

You will oversee national NZSL programmes and initiatives, manage the NZSL@School budget and systems, and ensure continuous improvement through data-informed decision making. Collaboration with Outreach leadership, Deaf communities and education partners will be central to your success.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership of NZSL Services and staff across New Zealand
  • Strengthen and grow NZSL environments for D/HH ākonga through strong systems, partnerships and quality delivery
  • Embed recommendations from the NZSL@School Review (2021) and drive service innovation for future growth
  • Manage national NZSL budgets, resources, and data reporting
  • Lead professional learning and capability development for NZSL Services staff

ABOUT YOU / MŌ KOE

You are an experienced educational leader with a passion for NZSL, Deaf culture and bilingual-bicultural education. You thrive on building strong teams and systems, leading through collaboration and ensuring positive outcomes for learners and their whānau.

YOU WILL HAVE / KEI A KOE

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Education and full NZ teacher registration
  • Knowledge and experience within Outreach Services
  • Proven experience leading large, geographically dispersed teams (25+ staff)
  • Demonstrated success in managing large-scale budgets and systems
  • Advanced or higher NZSL proficiency (SLPI: Advanced or above)
  • A collaborative and culturally responsive leadership style
