NZSL Tutor - Auckland

ABOUT US / MŌ MĀTOU

At Ko Taku Reo, we champion the success and identity of Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) learners across Aotearoa. Our mission is to empower tamariki and rangatahi through access to language, culture and education. We are a nationwide learning community with passionate people who work together to make a real difference. Join us in creating a future where every Deaf learner thrives, connects and belongs.

THE ROLE / TE MAHI

We’re looking for a confident and caring NZSL Tutor to join our team. In this role, you'll deliver one-on-one NZSL tuition and promote Deaf cultural understanding for students and their whānau. Working closely with our education team, you’ll develop customised learning plans and materials that meet diverse needs and promote confidence in NZSL.

This is a permanent part-time role (0.6 FTE) based at our Anton Centre in Flatbush, Auckland. As many of our learners are based remotely, this role includes regular online engagement – so you'll need to be comfortable teaching over video and keeping learners connected and supported from afar.

ABOUT YOU / MŌ KOE

  • A qualification such as a Deaf Studies Certificate (or equivalent)
  • First-hand understanding of Deaf culture and community
  • NZSL fluency, with an SLPI rating of Advanced or higher
  • Confidence working with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience teaching in Deaf education, special education or second language learning settings
  • A sound understanding of NZSL linguistics and second language learning theory
  • A current driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU / HEI AHA HE PAI TĒNEI MAHI MĀU?

  • A meaningful role that supports the success and identity of Deaf learners
  • A warm, inclusive and supportive workplace
  • Opportunities to grow and develop your skills
  • The chance to be part of a nationwide kaupapa that celebrates NZSL and Deaf culture
