ABOUT US /MŌ MĀTOU
At Ko Taku Reo we work to provide teaching support and resources to help New Zealand’s Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) children reach their academic potential as well as nurture their social and emotional wellbeing and help them form their own identity. You will be joining a nationwide team and you will share their passion and enthusiasm for delivering high quality education and services to DHH ākonga and their whānau we support.
THE ROLE / TE MAHI
We are looking for an experienced part-time (0.4FTE) Occupational Therapist to join our Integrated Services Team, working with students from 5-21 years of age. This role is based at our Auckland Campus in Kelston and supports our ākonga and their families/whānau in our Kelston and Ormiston Deaf provisions including our residential services.
You will:
- Support the wellbeing of our ākonga and their whānau
- Work closely with Ko Taku Reo’s Physiotherapist in developing plans and providing support to children, young people and teachers
- Ensure compliance with the values as well as the legislative requirements of the organisation
- Works alongside families, schools and other agencies to help children and young people participate in accessing the NZ curriculum
- Advocate for student needs appropriately
- Adapts equipment or the school environment to support student need
- Ensure appropriate records are maintained
- Work with wider staff across the organisation ensuring the best outcomes for students
You will have:
- Approved qualifications as an Occupational Therapist with proven pediatric experience
- Existing skills, or demonstrate a willingness to develop proficiency, in New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) and Deaf cultural knowledge
- A desire to assist with learning, achievement and success of our students
- Knowledge of NZ Education Sector
- Good communication and diplomacy skills
- Affinity with the values of our organisation
- Respect and positive engagement with all students and colleagues
- A clean, full drivers licence and use of own car with mileage reimbursed
- Rewarding work with children and their families watching them grow and excel
