ABOUT US / MŌ MĀTOU

At Ko Taku Reo we work to nurture the social and emotional wellbeing of Aotearoa’s Deaf and hard of hearing children and help them form their own identity; as well as providing support and resources to help them reach their academic potential. Ko Taku Reo has two residential sites - our Tāmaki Makaurau Campus in Kelston and our Ōtautahi Campus in Sumner. Residential accommodation is available for students aged 11 to 21 while they attend school or vocational training. The residential facilities operate a 24 hour service during term time.

THE ROLE / TE MAHI

Residential Team Leaders are collectively responsible, in co-operation with senior leaders, for the overall day-to-day operation of the residential programmes for students. Their role includes supporting students in meeting their social, emotional and educational needs so that they develop towards independence within their Deaf, hearing and cultural communities. We are looking for a permanent, full-time Residential Team Lead to join our Residential Team at our Ōtautahi Campus. The hours of work are Monday, Thursday, Friday 1.30pm-10.00pm, Saturday and Sunday 11.00am-7.00pm.

YOU WILL / KA MAHI KOE

• Take responsibility for the day-to-day support of students and their social and emotional needs
• Comply with and commit to policies and procedures
• Manage relieving staff on a daily basis
• Ensure daily records are maintained
• Ensure processes and procedures around student travel and finance are followed
• Proactively engage with families/whanau and students
• Working with the wider staff across the organisation ensuring the best outcomes for the residential students

YOU WILL HAVE / KEI A KOE

• Successfully led a diverse team
• Recent experience managing students in a hostel setting or similar
• Knowledge of Deaf culture preferred, however, a willingness to learn is essential
• Excellent communication and diplomacy skills
• Adaptable and able to lead change 
• A current full driver's licence
• Experience working with young people with multiple needs
• Knowledge of Children's Act and other relevant NZ legislation preferred
