Teacher of the Deaf - Ormiston Provisions


Ko Taku Reo Deaf Education New Zealand is seeking a passionate and skilled Teacher of the Deaf. This specialist teaching role (permanent 0.8FTE) supports Deaf and Hard of Hearing ākonga within a Deaf Bilingual Provision located in our Ormiston Provision, working collaboratively with students, whānau, colleagues and our partner school to ensure every learner can thrive.

As a Teacher of the Deaf, you will deliver high-quality, inclusive teaching programmes that promote academic achievement, wellbeing, identity, language and culture. You will create engaging learning environments where Deaf and Hard of Hearing learners are empowered to succeed and participate confidently in both the Deaf and wider community.

The successful applicant will:

  • Hold current full teacher registration in New Zealand
  • Demonstrate strong teaching practice and commitment to equitable outcomes
  • Have knowledge of Deaf and Hard of Hearing education, or a willingness to grow in this area
  • Be committed to bilingual-bicultural pedagogy and culturally responsive practice
  • Be proficient in NZSL, or willing to actively learn and develop NZSL skills
  • Build positive, collaborative relationships with learners, whānau and professionals

Preferred applicants will hold, or be willing to complete, a Post Graduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching (Deaf and Hard of Hearing).
