Teacher of the Deaf - Tawa College

We have established a new Deaf provision/satellite unit in partnership with Tawa College and are in search of a new team member to join our teaching staff.

ABOUT US / MŌ MĀTOU

Ko Taku Reo Deaf Education New Zealand is a Specialist School for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students. We have a focus on growth, learning and collaboration. You will be joining a nationwide team and you will share their passion and enthusiasm for delivering high quality education and services to DHH students and the whānau we support. We have 13 provisions (satellite unit) based in primary and secondary schools in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. 

THE ROLE / TE MAHI

We are seeking a qualified and experienced New Zealand Teacher of the Deaf, or a registered teacher with in-depth knowledge of the New Zealand Curriculum. You will be confident in adapting and differentiating teaching approaches, as well as using appropriate assessment tools to meet the diverse needs of learners.

You will work with small cohorts of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, using a range of communication modes including NZSL and spoken English. The role involves teaching in a variety of learning contexts and supporting each learner’s individual journey.

You’ll be part of a collaborative teaching team, which includes Teacher Aides and access to other specialists as needed, ensuring a wraparound approach to student success. We have future study awards available, allowing you to complete post-graduate Teacher of the Deaf study, once complete you will receive a Sign Language Allowance (SLA) equal to 1 unit in remuneration.
