Resource Teacher of the Deaf - Eastern Central


THE ROLE / TE MAHI

  • We are seeking an engaging, innovative teacher who has strong communication skills and is a collaborative team player as these skills will be needed in all you do.
  • You will be required to work in mainstream schools and other specialist schools to work closely with DHH students, whānau and school staff/teams. This is a permanent, fulltime role and is based at Edgecome Primary. The caseload for this role covers Whakatāne, Kawerau, Ōhope and Ōpōtiki.
  • Engaging within your assigned caseload with related record keeping and liaison with families and whanau to assist with student participation and success in their education and life outcomes.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION / NGĀ HERENGA MŌ TE MAHI

  • Proven best practice and experience working with Deaf children and/or working with mainstream children.
  • Qualified Teacher of the Deaf or an experienced NZ registered teacher.
  • Current, clean drivers' licence.
  • Use of own car with mileage reimbursed (with conditions).
  • You will have existing skills, or demonstrate a willingness to develop proficiency, in New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) and listening and spoken language practices for DHH learners.
  • Recent practical experience working with the early levels of the New Zealand Curriculum.
